I’ve decided to just buckle down and learn to draw caricatures. I’ve always been fascinated by them and the way an artist knows where to put down lines exactly where they need to be. How can a drawing look exactly like someone while at the same time be so exaggerated? I like to look at people’s faces and figure out what makes them look different than the person next to them or different from my own.
I know I’ve got a ways to go, but it’s something I really want to be able to do and I think it’s something that I’ll be able to do well eventually.
The goal here to to draw at least 1 caricature every single day. And in a year, I plan on redrawing a caricature from the that date the year prior to see how (and if) I’ve gotten better.
Right now, I’m just more or less just drawing straight on shots of these people. I’ll eventually graduate to 3/4 view and start to work in some body nuggets too. Maybe work on some props.
If anyone out there actually stumbles upon this page and has any pointers, please send them my way. I’m open to criticism too. I just want to be good and develop my own style.
I’ll also continue to put up any generative computational art and web projects on this blog too, but with a bit of caricature sprinkled in. Or plopped on top and smeared all over.
